FHWS Readers: An Ignoramus Is Among Us

I don’t usually take a FHWS reader’s comment in all its unedited glory and turn it into a blog post but the tone of this particular one warranted that I put the commentator on the spot for his ignorance.

On 7 September 2011 at 12:03pm, someone, somewhere, sat behind the supposed “safety” of their computer screen and typed out a narrow-minded attack on the morals of American women…excuse me…American girls.

Whoever you are…I could look up your ISP address on my stats and, if you weren’t hiding behind a proxy, I would try to figure out where on Allah’s earth you submitted your racist and sexist comment from. But I don’t need to know where you are because Allah sees and hears everything, His angels were recording your words just as you were recording your own. I do know WHAT you are, an anonymous coward.

I don’t know which soap operas or reality shows you have been watching but you have got it right as far as American “teenagers getting pregnant, doing drugs, dropping out of school, the nightclubbing, and parties”. Except it you remove the American and replace it with Saudis, Japanese, Mexicans, or Russians, you would get the same problems just different nationalities.

Have you ever lived in America or spent your vacation(s) there? You probably have. Have you ever talked in person with American women from all walks of life: from different states, different cities, different neighborhoods, different families and even from different religions? If you had, you would realize that you can not lump us all in the same bracket.

From the sound of it, you may be a man and more specifically, a Saudi man. What you are not, is someone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to “typical” American women married to Saudi men. Not unless you are in the shoes of an American woman married to a Saudi. Or perhaps you are a Saudi man that is or was married to an American woman, had a bad experience and think that ALL American women are like her. Such bitterness will eat you up upside and if you do not find a constructive way to deal with it, it will cloud your judgement. Taking it out on others may make you feel better but it does not make you a better person.

I can’t defend all American women whom I don’t know personally and can’t vouch for them but will do so for those I do know which includes “American Girl“. She is none of what you accuse her of…except she IS clever…in all the right ways masha’Allah.

You refer to us as Bible thumpers which means that we were Christians before we were Muslims and insha’Allah will get a double reward (1). Maybe Allah will take from your rewards and give them to us since you insulted us. Don’t even begin to think you are above reproach.

Why are you encouraging Sole Owl to create a blog defaming American women? Kinda gives me a hint about your character. Are you a cyber bully? A male chauvinist? Both? Why don’t you create one yourself if you claim to know so much about American women? Do me a favor and please do. Get your mind and hands too busy with your own blog so that you won’t have time to read FHWS or comment on it anymore.

A blog like FHWS doesn’t need “mesmerized” readers, it needs readers who are grounded, mature and do not launch personal attacks on those who have a different opinion.

You read my blog and you think you know me. You should know that I’m a Muslim woman before I’m ever an American woman. Nationalities are just labels but the real labels that matter the most are whether a person is blessed or wretched, the ones assigned to us while we were in the wombs of our mothers (2).

This blog is for Allah, with the permission of Allah and if I want any attention, I will seek it from Him alone.

One more thing, my husband does know that I blog and he reads it. And I’m pretty sure if he read what you said about me, he would say, “hasbunAllah wa ni3ma al-wakeel”. The world needs more people like him and less like you. Tara Umm Omar

Dear Sole Owl

You should start a blog about the American culture. I believe it would be a complete smutt show: teenagers getting pregnant, doing drugs, dropping out of school, the nightclubbing, and parties. let the arabs know if you don’t except this kind of life that would be around you in America, you would go CRAZY!

i think that the typical American girl that marries a saudi will only be happy in saudi, or even america, if she can not cover her hair; the abaya is tolerable, she can handle that much, but it’s pushing it. she must be able to sit with men also, please don’t leave her alone with the women… and remember she is american, she likes men looking at her, but will argue on it. driving, well, no comment on that. tuff it out.

she can’t go without attention from the world/society; that is why she has blogs to recieve this attention from the world. she will have lots of indirect power this way. she is still entertaining men, but not a person to person way, nor does she know them, but she knows they read what she writes. she can have all the attention she wants to have. the more interesting the blog, the more people to read her words. and the husband is just sitting there not understanding the typical american girl on how clever she is. and if she was a bible thumper now muslima girl, look out, she is the worst kind. good luck sole owl; even you were mesmerized by uta’s blog.

Dear FHWS readers, what would YOU say to this person?

1. Allah’s Apostle said “Three persons will have a double reward: A Christian or Jew who embraced Islam, a slave who discharges his duties to Allah and his master and a master of who converts his female-slave to Islam, frees her and then marries her.”

2. The Prophet said, “Allah has appointed an angel in the womb, and the angel says, ‘O Lord! A drop of discharge (i.e. of semen), O Lord! a clot, O Lord! a piece of flesh.’ And then, if Allah wishes to complete the child’s creation, the angel will say. ‘O Lord! A male or a female? O Lord! wretched or blessed (in religion)? What will his livelihood be? What will his age be?’ The angel writes all this while the child is in the womb of its mother.”

  1. You are a very wise woman, Tara Umm Omar. I am glad that I know you. And, you “tell it like it is” which is so important, yet you remain completely in the boundaries of your faith, and trust in God. This is a good thing. I highly commend you.
